| The Perfect Setting
Where natural beauty meets small town life
It was the tranquility and beauty of The Chain ‘O Lakes
and the Fox River that drew Lakemoor’s first settlers
a century ago. The village that was originally a collection
of summer homes and estates is today on the corridor of growth
that arches north and west of Chicago.
While expansion in both residential and commercial
sectors is moving rapidly in Lakemoor and the surrounding
area, it
is still the accessibility of outdoor living and recreation
that sets it apart from other communities. The countryside
is dotted with lakes, marshes, bogs and fascinating geological
sites.
The population of The Village of Lakemoor
is just 2,788. This is small town life with easy access to
all the attractions
of Chicago, to education opportunities, to shopping and healthcare.
This is also a community of strong civic
pride and a focus on family. An active Parks Committee keeps
introducing children’s
programs such as Tee-Ball and the Lakemoor Lion’s Club
hosts an annual Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween Party and Christmas
Party for village children and families. Every August Lakemoorfest
brings the community together for music, sports and games,
Kid Care photos, food, bands and the best fireworks in the
area.
But perhaps most important, this is a community
with a plan for growth. Rather than allowing random development,
Lakemoor
has developed a Comprehensive Land Use Plan that recognizes
the distinctive characteristics of the environment in and
around the village and encourages creative adaptation to
the unique landscape.
Access to local destinations as well as suburban
and downtown Chicago is simple. The village is close to the
intersection of Route 12/59 and Route 120 which places it
at the axis of east/west and north/south travel. Metra stations
dot the area with commuter rail stations in McHenry, Fox
Lake and Round Lake. This makes commuting to other suburbs
or downtown Chicago easy and dependable.
Parks/Recreation/Culture
Kirk Homes’ new community is surrounded by the lakes,
rivers and natural beauty that has been drawing people from
the Midwest and beyond for generations.
The Village of Lakemoor is settled between
two state parks. In Moraine Hills State Park, residents can
bike nine miles
of trails in the summer and cross-country ski in the winter.
Volo Bog State Park is in an area formed by a glacier 10,000
years ago. The park draws visitors and students with its
environmental studies, walking trails and interpretive
nature programs.
The Village has several parks including Morrison
Park on the shore of Lily Lake. Also in the area are Heritage
Community
Park, Peterson Park and Grams Park. This collection of
parks offers a rich variety of recreation from fishing
and swimming
to modern playground equipment, basketball and volleyball
courts, a baseball diamond and soccer field. A boat ramp
that is free to residents provides access to Lily Lake.
Schools/Education
Children growing up at Rockwell Place in Lakemoor will build
a solid educational foundation at six area schools. After
elementary, middle and high school they can stay close
to home at the College of Lake County or McHenry County
College. The greater Chicagoland area is also home to some
of the nation’s most prestigious colleges and universities
as well as post-secondary training in specialized fields
such as culinary arts, hospitality and technology.
The area is also home to an array of public
libraries. Four districts serve the village; their interdistrict
loan program allows library cardholders to use facilities
in each of the districts.
Shopping/Health/Community
Services
Lakemoor’s location makes it a hub for great shopping.
Gurnee Mills offers outlet shopping, while nearby Woodfield
and Hawthorn Shopping Malls have a large collection of major
retailers. For more leisurely pursuits, Main Street in Wauconda
offers a variety of antique stores and boutiques. Grocery
shopping is equally diverse, from major chains to convenience
stores. Even the restaurants offer diversity. From the nationally
acclaimed Le Vichyssois French restaurant to family dining
and traditional dinners, every appetite is served. Casual
dining is always nearby in downtown Wauconda, including a
picturesque lakefront restaurant.
